This cozy home is located in beautiful Squamish, BC. With active homeowner participation throughout the design and construction process, this is a project that truly features integrated planning and embedded green building.
This home features LED lighting, high-efficiency water heating, as well as Energy Star appliances. The building materials contained a variety of environmentally preferable products, ranging from finger-jointed framing, recycled content materials, to low emission flooring, in addition to plenty of locally sourced materials overall. The project also achieved an outstanding 97% waste diversion. Great construction practices and attention to detail contributed to an air-tight home which was energy efficient in both its design and function. The home benefits from exceptional indoor air quality through the use of an HRV and minimal contaminants during and after construction. In addition to low-flow fixtures, the homeowners also installed a rain-water collection system that allows them to hand-water their plants and food garden as needed, reducing the consumption of municipal water.
